A Prayer for Our Nation
Prayer for Our Nation
Healing a nation doesn't start in Washington. It starts on our knees. This prayer isn't for one party or the other. It's for all of us, and for every person who serves.
✦ The prayer
Lord, we pray for our nation.
We confess that we have often trusted our own strength, our own side, and our own opinions more than You. Forgive us. Humble us. Turn our hearts back to You.
Heal our land. Where we are divided, bring us back to the same table. Where we have hurt each other with our words, teach us to speak with grace. Help us love our neighbors, including the ones we disagree with.
We pray for every leader: the President, Congress, our judges, governors, legislators, mayors, and city councils. Give them wisdom, integrity, and courage. Protect their families. Help them serve the people, not just a party.
You are still on the throne. Let Your peace and justice fill this country. In Jesus' name, amen.
✦ Scripture
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!Psalm 33:12 (ESV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.1 Timothy 2:1–2 (ESV)
