Prayer for the Election
Pray for the election by praying for every candidate, every voter, and every person counting the votes, and then for whoever takes office. Scripture asks believers to pray "for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions" (1 Timothy 2:1–2, ESV), no matter who wins.

Serving as a chaplain at the Oklahoma Capitol has taken me from praying with lawmakers after news of a vote to visiting a representative’s family member in the hospital. In House and Senate Bible studies, we bring personal burdens before God and pray for physical healing. These moments remind me that behind every elected office is a person with a family, concerns, and a need for God’s wisdom and care. After an election, our calling to pray continues—for those who win, those who lose, and everyone entrusted with serving our state.

Questions People Ask
Who should I pray for if my candidate loses?
Pray for the person who won. Scripture asks us to pray for "all who are in high positions," not only the ones we chose. Pray for their wisdom, health, and family, and for the candidate who lost as well.
Can a church pray about an election and stay nonpartisan?
Yes. Pray for the process, for every candidate, for voters and election workers, and for whoever takes office, without naming a preferred candidate or party. That is how Capitol Culture prays too.
What do I pray for the people who win?
Pray for humility, wise advisers, integrity under pressure, health, and strength for their families. Pray that they serve everyone in their district or state, not only their supporters.
Is Capitol Culture political?
No. Capitol Culture is a nonpartisan, non-lobbying 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves state legislators of every party through prayer and chaplaincy. We never endorse candidates or take positions on legislation.
